Job Title: Chief Engineer

Reports To: General Manager

Summary

The primary function of the Chief Engineer is to direct and coordinate the activities within the hotel in regards to routine, preventative and emergency maintenance.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • • Responsible for the maintenance/houseperson staff members and their performance.
  • • Coordinate with GM and staff to Plan, schedule and prioritize all tasks, work orders and special projects to be completed by the Engineer.
  • • Ensure that guests receive prompt, professional treatment and courteous service in response to their maintenance needs.
  • • Responsible for Payroll by verifying all Maintenance Department Associates clock-in and clock-out times.
  • • Perform daily inspections to ensure property grounds and work areas are maintained to standard.
  • • Ensure all safety equipment and conditions are up to code.
  • • Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures are initiated and followed.
  • • Coordinate with General Manager to create preventative maintenance program for all mechanical related equipment.
  • • Establish department equipment and inventory levels to be maintained, and work with the General Manager on ordering procedure.
  • • Maintain, monitor, and test the hotel’s emergency and security systems, features and procedures.
  • • Ensure all tools and equipment is in working condition, and up to code.
  • • Ensure the security of all equipment and tools.
  • • Ensure storerooms and work spaces are kept clean and organized.
  • • Coordinate with GM to ensure that the grounds near the pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, fitness area and restrooms are on par with the standard meant to be maintained.
  • • Ensure follow through on all issues and discrepancies as pertaining to Engineering.
  • • Proficient in basic Building Services Engineering; including, but not limited to: wall vinyl repairs, tile work, grouting, caulking, plaster, and painting.
  • • Maintain operation for interior/exterior of facility; including, but not limited to: plumbing, heating & cooling, structural, and ground care.
  • • Perform property walks to ensure cleanliness, functionality and security.
  • • Complete assigned cleaning and maintenance requests as informed by the front desk.
  • • Coordinate the ordering of chemicals and the regular maintenance of the pool and fitness area.
  • • Assisting in the management of the departmental budget.
  • • Coordinate the maintenance of the workout equipment with engineering.
  • • Reply to guest questions and handle any concerns.
  • • Responsible for ordering maintenance supplies while observing budgeted guidelines.
  • • Responsible for Maintenance Department Associate performance appraisals.
  • • Responsible for maintaining a monthly checkbook of expenditures.
  • • Ensure all employee trainings and certifications are up to date.
  • • Setup, maintain and refresh function room as required.
  • • Scheduling of Maintenance Associates’ shifts and breaks.
  • • Attend mandatory meetings & hotel functions.
  • • Comply with all company standards and policies, as established in the employee handbook.
  • • Other duties as required.

Education And Or Experience

A High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); A college degree is preferred or 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous hotel experience preferred, but not required.

Language Skills

A High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); A college degree is preferred or 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous hotel experience preferred, but not required.

Mathematical Skills

The ability to perform basic mathematical functions: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Work Environment & Reasoning Ability

The ability to apply the use of common sense & understanding in order to carry out instructions, whether in written, oral or diagram form. The ability to work in close proximity with others comfortably, while multitasking in a fast paced environment. Must possess conflict resolution skills.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, Associates may need to lift items up to 25 lbs. and spend a length of time on your feet.
